Did those of you who dismissed this as simple because you play it in Middle School and marching band consider that it seems simple because his performances paved the way for the variations that are played in schools across the country? People quickly forget their predecessors, as though Middle School band concerts just came out of nowhere. Gershwin is played frequently at these concerts as well, but what if there had been no Gershwin?

Still an absolutely favorite piece of music, especially this version and that awesome half time break down before the solos. Heard this in high school in 1981 and never forgot it. Big influence.

Insane lips! This is now one of my favorite songs. If you want to scream yourself, try making the “c” syllable with your mouth while not pulling your horn into your face, make your aperture tight and firm, and just ascend. It will sound screechy at first, but you will get used to air speeds for each note and it will get better. When I started doing this, I got a consistent double g and occasional double c that’s getting more consistent. Try it!
