When I met Wayne Shorter, I asked him what was going through his head as he wrote this track...... The answer I got was so damned deep. Damn, wayne is an incredible human being!

I was getting tired of Rock (Rock was getting tired of itself), and then the FM rock station played this (it was tired of rock, too) and it blew my mind - this was the new direction to go in (which turned out to be Jazz Fusion)...

As a 14 yearold kid in the mid 90s, I can say that this really had an amazing affect on my outlook on music positively.

In my first decade of wanting to be a TRUE Jazz expert, (listening to and knowing in depth about all styles and eras), I used to say this was my favourite piece of music ever. Another decade on I can’t say that but it still holds a strong place in heart! So original. Goosebumps! Salute Wayne, Joe and special mention to Alphonse Johnson whose bass playing on this, Tale Spinnin, and Black Market is deserved of much more recognition than it seems to get!

Weather Report always had terrific bass players and percussionists throughout its musical history...
