Jazz always tells strange tales...like dreams that make no sense, but are very revealing. Such is jazz...such is Monk. This song seems like it was written backwards, inside-out, upside-down. Like a memory one seeks to retrieve but stays just out of reach. That is its feel. A sense of time and place but within a hazy dream-world where a musical muse taunts Monk with melodies and rhythms he is challenged to remember without the loss of his sanity. Inspiration is often risky.

I have the first vinyl version of this album, I have played it so many times and I still play it so often , especially this piece, the scratches have been part of it and add some kind of unique melancoly, very moving.
