I remember watching true detective for the first time and I HATED this track. By episode 3 I was humming. By episode 5 I could not stop singing. Master piece!

I believe this song to have a much deeper meaning then what people think it means. I think it is about a love for both predator and prey. He sings about blood on his hands as he touched her skin. And response with I fell in the thorny bush and felt the trembling hand. Meaning he was going to murder her and he loved her because she was his prey. And she loved him for him trying to he her predator. But in the last lines of the song she says mountain cats will come and drag away your bones. This is about him trying to kill her but she killed him instead. Out of fear she loved him. And out of love he learned to fear her. They both die in the desert together as predators and as prey. Neither beating the other. And as they die they look at each other and at that moment they are the only things on this earth. They are truly one with each other and so in love with each other.
