We thought that love was over
That we were really through
I said I didn’t love him
That we’d begin anew
And you can all believe me We sure intended to But we just couldn’t say goodbye
The chair and then the sofa
They broke right down and cried
The curtains started waving
For me to come inside
I tell you confidentially
The tears were hard to hide
And we just couldn’t say goodbye
The clock was striking twelve o’clock
It smiled on us below
With folded hands it seemed to say
«We'll miss you if you go.»
So I went back and kissed him
And when I looked around
The room was singing love songs
And dancing up and down
And now we’re both so happy
Because at last we’ve found
That we just couldn’t say goodbye
People in love are funny
They’re mighty hard to explain
One minute they quarrel
Then they’re back together again
Take my case for instance
We had a little fuss
Now listen, ladies and gentlemen
Here’s what happened to us
I said I didn’t love him
That we’d begin anew
But we just couldn’t say goodbye
The chair and then the sofa
They broke right down and cried
I tell you confidentially
The tears were hard to hide
And we just couldn’t say goodbye
So I went back and kissed him
And when I looked around
The room was singing love songs
And dancing up and down
And now we’re both so happy
Because at last we’ve found
That we just couldn’t say goodbye
Wonderful song! They were amazing ladies in their day and so influential to other artists. Too bad their music is nearly all but forgotten today. Get upload.
Ten years after Vet died the Boswell Sisters were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame (1998), again 10 years later they were inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame (2008)...better late than never! Grtz, Aad
fantastic ! and very unique . my parents raised me on 1930s/40s big band and i came to really like artie shaw / goodman & helen forest signing with those great 2 bands . but i never knew about boswell sisters til past several years and first song i was hooked by their serenading voices and the soothing to up beat rythm changes of songs . and now i realize they were right up there with the best ! happy to see your posting these !
I third that .....Poor Donald , he seems so grumbling for such a Blessed Character ...Those guys music has brought me endless pleasure - Was just listening to "The Finer Things" , great Fagan song (by Sanborn) on "King of Comedy" soundtrack
