Two men have quarreled, so two men will fight
Oh, stop them before it’s too late
Lord, stop them from doing this terrible thing
For the sake of two women who wait.
Or one of us will weep tonight,
One of wont sleep tonight,
One of us will walk forth tomorrow,
Out of a happy life,
Into a lonely life,
Wearing the black dress of sorrow
Out is the street now they reach for their guns,
Please stop them before it’s too late
But a bullet rings out and the pain can be felt
In the hearts of two women that wait.
Now one of us will weep tonight,
One of us wont sleep tonight,
One of us will walk forth tomorrow,
One of us a happy life
One of us a lonely life
Wearing the black dress of sorrow.
One of Us charted nationally with the June 6, 1960 issues of Music Vendor and Billboard Magazine, June 11, 1960 issue of Cashbox going as high as No. 22 in Music Vendor, 32 and 31 in Cashbox and Billboard respectively.....charted for 14 weeks. In my neck of the woods (extreme Southern Minnesota/Northern Iowa) it was Top 10! One of my all time favorite Patti Page songs.....her harmonies are beyond compare.
I remember this song so well !!! My older sisters and I would sing this , and many other songs during the long drive to Sudbury Ontario . I have looked for the artist of this song for many many years !!! This has brought many memories back !
