This is one of these strange pieces that Liszt wrote at he end of his life, which is impossible to analyze in the key of g minor, the "official key". Even the last chord includes unsolved appogiaturas. The augmented fifth - well before Debussy - is at the heart of the center of the piece. Lazare Berman excels in rendering that strange atmosphere.
