I have an idea and I think it’s a keeper. Perhaps the dozen ‘Thumbs Down’ music critics might best be isolated, preferably a remote location.........alone together. Just sayin’...........and prayin’.
The most underrated major leader in jazz. Top 5 trumpet player along with Hubard, Brown, Byrd, and Morgan. Very good composer and arranger too. Thank you maestro.
nicely played.his lip sounds just a bit tired....maybe this was one of about 50 takes to try to get this simple sounding song recorded.......Its a difficult song for a trumpet player to play well because you have to sustain notes and yet you cant play loud or push the high notes or you lose the balance and the beauty.Difficult.Very exposed. Its a real test for a trumpet player, and the best ones dont go for the runs and the flair in an effort to hide, but rather they just try to play it gently with long sustained notes.Chet Baker does it pretty well, as Clifford Brown does it better.
