am reading the bio of Emmett Miller "Where Dead Voices Gather" by Nick Tosches, these videos make a great soundtrack for reading about the historical background of this music. Thanks

This is the third version i.e.first recorded Oct 1924(Okeh)with just piano accompaniment;second version(Okeh)recorded Aug 1928,with the Georgia Crackers(Dorsey Bros,Lang etc). This third version was for Bluebird on Sept 1936. ALSO...it is a well established and known fact that Hank Williams owned a copy of a version by Emmett Miller, having been told by Rex Griffin where he got it from.Hank sought out a copy for himself.Hank was a known admirer of Miller,so had definitely heard of him.

Great post. Interesting to hear the original version of Anytime, done so well later by Eddie Arnold and brilliantly by Eddie Fisher. One can certainly see the influence Miller had on Hank Williams.

Hank Williams copied his version of "Lovesick Blues" from Rex Griffin and probably never heard of Emmett Miller. But you can hear Emmett Millers influence in the early recordings by Bob Wills with Tommy Duncan, who imitated him.

This version is about 8 years after he did it the first time. It can be found on "Minstrel Man From Georgia" on Columbia Historic Edition Special Products, re-released on Sony.

Is that Johnny Mercer talking to Emmett Miller at the start of the record? It sounds like the records Mercer did with Jack Teagarden around this time! :0)>
