I was in the pit orchestra for this show for my school. The whole show especially this song was just absolutely incredible. I loved every second of it.

Played the flute/alto flute part for this musical in the pit orchestra last year... I was tacet for this so I just got to take it in, I loved it so much. I still come back to it and sing with it sometimes lol

Saw Aida on Broadway in Spring 2002 (the date’s important).Honestly thought the rest of the musical was kinda boring. But I sat up in my chair when this one started at the end of the first act IIRC.Had visited Ground Zero that morning. So I thing this bittersweet song about longing for one’s home nation really struck a chord with me that day. I still get chills when I hear it.
